Can I have gentle scalp care while being treated for folliculitis?
Whether it can be done depends on the opinion of the attending doctor. Folliculitis (commonly caused by Staphylococcus aureus) requires medical treatment; scalp care cannot replace it (EADV Position Statement on the Management of folliculitis decalvans, PMID 40230058).
If the doctor agrees to do gentle cleaning: Go to the location and proactively inform the patient about the condition and treatment medications; only do non-irritating items and avoid operations on the affected area; stop immediately and return for follow-up if the condition worsens. In principle, no external care is required when inflammation is active and pustules are ruptured.
