Q22

Can scalp care help with postpartum hair loss?

First consider the usual course: postpartum shedding is often telogen effluvium. It commonly begins 2–6 months after delivery and resolves on its own within 6–12 months in most cases (Grover 2013, PMID 23974577). Special treatment is generally unnecessary. Scalp care cannot change this course; basic maintenance and a calm approach are enough.

When choosing a provider, check whether it explains pregnancy and breastfeeding restrictions, asks when you gave birth and whether you are breastfeeding, and offers single sessions. If heavy shedding continues beyond 12 months, see a doctor to check for other causes.
