Q25
I have severe hair loss three months after giving birth. Should I see a doctor first?
In many cases, observation is reasonable at first. Heavy shedding around three months after delivery is often telogen effluvium and generally improves on its own over 6–12 months (Grover 2013, PMID 23974577). Seek medical assessment if shedding is unusually severe, comes with scalp symptoms such as redness or patchy loss, or causes significant distress.
Once a doctor finds no other issue and permits routine care, choose a provider that explains postpartum restrictions and asks about breastfeeding. Basic maintenance is enough; more intensive intervention is unnecessary.
This page from FerriaMed Hair Care Center explains general scalp care and the limits of our services. The Hair Care Center provides nonmedical scalp care; it does not diagnose or treat disease or prescribe medication. Consult a doctor about health concerns, and follow the prescribing doctor’s instructions for medication. This content is not medical advice. Services and prices are subject to the current written information at each location.
