I previously had an allergic reaction to an aesthetic procedure. What should I check before choosing care?

Four checks: disclose your full allergy history and previous aesthetic procedures; look for a provider that performs a small-area test before care; ask the original medical provider to help identify the allergen if needed; and request full ingredient information so known triggers can be avoided.

Some added ingredients, including propolis, can cause sensitization (see Techniques in the Evaluation and Management of Hair Diseases). People with a history of allergies should be especially cautious about minimally invasive services and make a decision only after an appropriate assessment.
