Q98

I have a lot of gray hair at a young age. Should I see a doctor?

It is recommended to seek medical attention first. Premature gray hair may be related to hypothyroidism, vitamin B12/D deficiency, vitiligo, etc. (PMID 30607038). It should be investigated when it suddenly increases or is accompanied by other symptoms.

After investigation, there are two situations: reversible causes will be treated under the guidance of a doctor; if there are no special problems as assessed by the doctor, daily maintenance will only be scalp health management, and there is no promise to reverse gray hair (PMID 32654282). If you need coverage, use hair dyeing to solve it.
