Q05 Check 3: Who actually performs the surgery?
Confirm that the person performing surgery is a registered medical practitioner and ask for the responsible doctor's name to be included in your informed-consent documents.
Article 11 of the Measures for the Administration of Medical Cosmetic Services sets requirements for doctors.
Operating-room nurses assist with extraction, graft separation and implantation and perform circulating duties. Doctors retain responsibility for medical decisions and surgery. Exercise caution if an institution cannot clearly identify who is responsible for the operation.
Before signing, confirm two points: the responsible doctor's name will appear in the informed-consent documents and surgical record; and the doctor will be present throughout key stages from finalizing the design and administering or directing anesthesia to extraction and implantation. You may ask to verify the operators' identities before and during surgery.
