Extraction uses up donor reserves. Appearance is generally acceptable within safe extraction limits; overharvesting can cause irreversible patchiness or visible thinning.

Keene et al. (2018) note that residual density of 20–30 FU/cm², especially when one- and two-hair units predominate, can look see-through. Hair in Asian populations often emerges at a steeper angle and is more frequently straight, increasing the relative risk of visible donor thinning.
Thinning is more noticeable with shorter hairstyles and greater contrast between hair and scalp. Once it occurs, another operation cannot fundamentally reverse it.
Tell your doctor your usual hair length and hairstyle preferences so they can account for them when deciding extraction volume.
