Q81 What density do you plan, and why is denser not always better?
Conclusion
Planned recipient density is usually 30–50 FU/cm², depending on available donor reserves, local blood supply and appearance goals. Higher is not always better.
Supporting information
Scalp recipient areas.
Normal hairline and temporal density is around 40–50 FU/cm² (Keene et al., 2018). Excessively dense recipient sites increase the risk of impaired local blood supply and reduce the area that the same donor supply can cover.
Risks and limitations
Pursuing very high density in one spot sacrifices overall coverage and may affect graft survival conditions. Your in-person assessment determines the specific figures.
Next steps
Ask for an explanation of the relationship between density, area and donor consumption.
